Opera Western Reserve presents Lucia di Lammermoor
November 10, 2017 @ 7:30 pm
Opera Western Reserve presents Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti on Friday, November 10 at 7:30pm at Stambaugh Auditorium. English translations will be projected above the stage to assist guests in following the story, as the opera is beautifully sung in Italian. Inspired by the novel of Sir Walter Scott, The Bride of Lammermoor, the story is told through the masterful music of Gaetano Donizetti. A gripping story of thwarted lovers and feuding families, this tale stands the test of time by being one of the greatest operatic tragedies. Referred to as a Scottish version of Romeo and Juliet, Lucia and Edgardo are two innocent young lovers who quickly realize that not even the strongest passion will shield them from fate. After Edgardo is torn away from Lucia by duties in France, she is pressured to marry the wrong man. At her breaking point, Lucia’s emotions climax into one of the most memorable and powerful mad scenes in the world of opera. Enjoy dinner in the Jeanne D. Tyler Grand Ballroom before Opera Western Reserve’s performance of Lucia di Lammermoor. A plated dinner will be provided by Chrystal’s Catering. Dinner will feature a fresh mozzarella, arugula, and tomato salad, Italian cheese-stuffed chicken breast, rosemary potato wedges, fresh broccoli, dessert, and an open bar. Reservations must be made by November 7th. Opera Western Reserve is a professional opera company in their 14th year of residence at Stambaugh Auditorium. All productions are completely created in the Mahoning Valley. OWR features singers from the Western Reserve area, which includes Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
